Hunter Gatherer: UdeM at 1CLICK-2
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe our hunter-gartherer system for the NTCIR10 1CLICK-2 task. We inspire ourselves on the DeepQA framework looking to adapt it for the 1CLICK task. Several techniques can be integrated naturally in this framework. The hunter component generates candidates based on the passage retrieval for the original query, the gartherer component collects evidence for each candidate and score them based on the collected evidence, and finally a summarization system is utilized to organized the high-quality candidates. The evaluation results show the effectiveness of this framework in the 1CLICK search task.

Supposing Hunter-gatherer Variability
J B. S. Haldane, the British geneticist, once mused, "my suspicion is that the universe is not only queerer than we suppose ,but queerer than we can suppose" (Haldane 1927:286). This comment can be paraphrased to summarize the fundamental problem presently facing hunter-gatherer studies: there is more variation among recent and especially past hunter-gatherer societies than we have supposed. Th...
متن کاملHunter-Gatherer Olfaction Is Special
People struggle to name odors [1-4]. This has been attributed to a diminution of olfaction in trade-off to vision [5-10]. This presumption has been challenged recently by data from the hunter-gatherer Jahai who, unlike English speakers, find odors as easy to name as colors [4]. Is the superior olfactory performance among the Jahai because of their ecology (tropical rainforest), their language f...
متن کاملRecent Origin and Cultural Reversion of a Hunter–Gatherer Group
Contemporary hunter-gatherer groups are often thought to serve as models of an ancient lifestyle that was typical of human populations prior to the development of agriculture. Patterns of genetic variation in hunter-gatherer groups such as the Kung and African Pygmies are consistent with this view, as they exhibit low genetic diversity coupled with high frequencies of divergent mtDNA types not ...
متن کاملEstimation of the diet-dependent net acid load in 229 worldwide historically studied hunter-gatherer societies.
BACKGROUND Nutrition scientists are showing growing interest in the diet patterns of preagricultural (hunter-gatherer) humans. Retrojected preagricultural diets are reportedly predominantly net base producing in contrast to the net acid-producing modern Western diets. OBJECTIVE We examined the dietary net acid load [net endogenous acid production (NEAP)] for 229 worldwide historically studied...
متن کاملAn Optimal Foraging-Based Model of Hunter-Gatherer Population Dynamics
Population changes for hunter-gatherers are modeled on the basis of nutritional intake, which is determined using an optimal foraging model based upon the optimization technique of linear programming. The population model not only demonstrates how hunter-gatherer demography changes with nutrition, but also shows how their density influences food abundance in the environment which in turn affect...
